This version is recommended for dial up users because it will stream - meaning it will start to play before the entire file is downloaded and will continue downloading as it plays. It should take less than a minute for the audio to start being heard. A download would take 1-2 hours with a 28K dial up connection.

You will need this real player add on to play the real player clip above. The FREE version is all you need - though they try to sell you more (look in the upper right of the web page)!

To Download the RealOne version of the lecture:

  • If you would like to download the RealOne audio file to play from your desktop right click here for the file. Review the instructions on the right for how to download if you are not familiar with this process. This is a separate link from the one above because you need the actual file - not the re-direct for streaming that is linked above.
  • When the download begins you will be presented with a dialog box that will tell you how long the download will take with your connection speed and the size of the file. It will also give you an option to cancel the download at any time.
  • This file may require up to 40MB of disk space.

Play mp3


Clicking on the button above will download the full mp3 with no buffering. This could take up to 90 seconds on a cable/DSL connection. However, this version is recommended as it will play well without interruption, after downloaded. It may require up to 30MB of free disk space.

To Download these files to your PC (recommended):
  • Right click on the "Play MP3" button above.
  • Click "Save Target As" (in IE).
    In Netscape click "Save Link Target As".
  • When the download begins you will be presented with a dialog box that will tell you how long the download will take with your connection speed and the size of the file. It will also give you an option to cancel the download at any time.
  • Repeat the first three steps for second file.
  • After downloading you will see the name on your desktop. Double-clicking on it will play it in whatever program you have associated with mp3 files by default. If you would like to play with something else (such as Windows Media Player or IE):
    • Right click on the icon on your desktop
    • Move mouse to "Open With" and a drop down list will appear
    • Choose the program you would like to use (i.e. Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer, or RealOne Player)
  • If you have a CD burner and would like to write it to a CD:
    • Right click the icon on your desktop
    • Click on "Copy to CD or Device"
    • Follow the applications instructions
